The Quiet Face

On restraint, the beauty of undertreatment, and why the best work is the work you cannot see.

The Quiet Face

The Quiet Face

The best injectable result is the one a stranger cannot name. Not the one that disappears — the one that feels inevitable. A face that is simply itself, only rested.

I used to chase fullness. I chased a photograph. I chased a before-and-after that looked like a transformation. Now I chase stillness. A face that looks like a person, not a treatment.

Three rules I return to

  • **Undertreat. Review. Add.** You cannot take it back.
  • **The patient leaves the room once.** If you are unsure, they come back.
  • **Refuse well.** A declined consultation is an investment in your reputation.

  • Restraint is the posture of a clinician. Enthusiasm is the posture of a salesperson. Pick one.
